Catalysis with Doped Sol-Gel Silicates

2011

Silicates doped with catalytic species have only been slowly adopted by the fine chemicals and pharmaceutical industries, in spite of their remarkable and unique properties such as pronounced physical and chemical stability; high (enantio)selective activity and ease of materials production and application. This is now changing thanks to stricter safety regulations and to concomitant success of the first commercial catalysts. In this account we tell the story of these materials and identify some deficiencies in the innovation process that may serve as lesson in guiding the future management of innovation in these relevant industries.

CROWDFUNDING AND INNOVATION

Entrepreneurs have started relying on crowdfunding to fund their investments. This paper surveys the literature linking crowdfunding with innovation in entrepreneurial firms. Two distinct areas are discussed. First, crowdfunding has the potential to foster innovation by offering new sources of capital to innovation‐driven firms and thereby reduce the funding gap for innovative startups. Innovation Complementarity and Scale of Production

We present an econometrically feasible model that uses the information contained in the innovation profile of each firm to test for the existence of complementarity among production and innovation strategies. Our approach is able to distinguish between complementarity and correlation induced by unobserved heterogeneity. We apply the model to analyze the Spanish ceramic tile industry where the adoption of the single firing furnace in the 1980's facilitated the introduction of new product designs as well as opening new ways of organizing production. Inovacijos yra konkurencingumo pagrindas. Kartu pagrindinis vadovo uždavinys yra savininkų turto maksimizavimas, todėl svarbu tyrinėti inovacijų ir bendrovės vertės santykį. Šio tyrimo tikslas – ištirti inovacijų poveikį organizacijos vertei. Tiriamos Baltijos šalių bendrovės, veikusios 2005–2011 metų laikotarpiu. Tyrimas parodė, kad inovatyvių bendrovių vertė yra didesnė, didesnės ir jos pačios. Nustatyta, kad didesnė bendrovės vertė pasiekiama, jei nematerialių išteklių dalis viršija 1 %.
